Hello Dear Friends,

When I finish my work earlier than I think, I run to the kitchen to come home and get rid of the tiredness of the day. In my mind, I had the delicious "Island Cookie" of Cafe Nar Bağlarbaşı, which I visited for the first time in the past weeks and is a candidate to be my new favorite place. I'll talk about why the cookie's name is Ada later :)

I learned about Nar Cafe thanks to Instagram. Cihan Hanım, one of the partners of the cafe, is a strict Instagram user. I decided to stop by at the first opportunity when I said that we have such a place while we were wandering around the common places, but as you know, it took me 2 weeks to go when I was overworked.

When I walked into the place and saw the garden, I said this is the place I've been looking for for a long time. It is in the heart of Istanbul, but it is so calm and peaceful that it relaxes the soul. Most importantly, it is a family place, Cihan's mother, Nihal, is both the partner and the cook of the cafe. His other partners and old family friends, Mrs. Ayten, also prepares delicious specialties in the cafe, and she is the creator of Ada cookies. As a matter of fact, the name of the little granddaughter in Ada and a cookie recipe prepared in her honor :)

I had breakfast the first day I visited. Everything from tea to menemen is both delicious and at a very affordable price. They share the menu of the day via social networks such as Facebook and Instagram. I mean, the customers come knowing what the food was that day :)

If you remember, I said it was a family business. The cafe, which opens at 07:00 in the morning, closes between 19:00 and 20:00 during the winter months, and they are also closed on Sundays. They have recently started to organize birthday parties for children.

The culinary secret I bought for you from my new taste stop is Island Cookie with Pudding. I tried it there for the first time with coffee after breakfast, you know the old ones make the recipes by eye. I tried the recipe and measured it according to myself and added extra vanilla flavor to it.

The first photo was the cookie prepared for me in the cafe, I took it right there when I saw the beautiful light. The one that I prepared at home with the construction stages. Their types are similar or not, but their tastes are almost the same :) This difference may be due to the brand of pudding used, the difference in the oven or the vanilla flavor I added.

If you are on your way or if you are nearby, I recommend you to stop by and drink their tea.

Ingredients for Pudding Island Cookies & Cafe Nar Bağlarbaşı Recipe

  • 1 pack of pudding powder (with cocoa)
  • 1 teaspoons of oil
  • 200 g margarine at room temperature
  • 2,5-3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
  • 2 teaspoons chocolate chips

How to Make Island Cookies with Pudding & Cafe Nar Bağlarbaşı?

  1. Put the pudding and 2,5 water glasses of flour in the mixing bowl.
  2. Add oil, margarine and vanilla flavoring on it.
  3. Knead until you get a runny dough that rolls easily by hand. Add ½ cup more flour if needed.
  4. Take ping-pong ball-sized pieces from the dough and roll them in your hand. (Makes up to 25 pieces)
  5. Place them on a baking tray 2-3 cm apart and sprinkle chocolate chips in the middle.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 25 minutes. (Cookies will still be soft when you take them out of the oven, do not bake any longer, they may burn. The cookies will harden as they cool, don't worry)
  7. When the cookies you have taken from the oven have completely cooled, carefully separate them from the tray and serve.

The oil came a little too much, it could be the glass size. Even though I kept it for 20 minutes, they burned a little. Next time I will reduce the heat and it was a little sugary, it may be from the pudding brand. Cocoa cookies with the taste of flour cookies went well with the coffee and they did not go stale for 4 days (I put them in the cookie box when it got cold) thanks for the recipe.

What we call vanilla flavor is the vanilla we know. Whether it's okay to use it or not

    Hello Miss Nilay,
I try your recipes with great pleasure. I'm new in the kitchen, so I use half the size of the ingredients so that if it's bad, it won't go to waste.

Powdered vanilla is actually vanillin and does not taste the same. Even if you don't use it.

I haven't tried the recipe yet, but I was surprised to see that there is no sugar in the recipe, do we need to add sugar to see how it tastes or does it fulfill the pudding taste?

Hello, Büşra, take a look at the taste of your pudding before kneading it. If it is sweet enough for your palate, do not add sugar, but if you like it more sugary, add a little bit of curd sugar. Love…

    Miss Nilay, it's me again.
There was such a love that I even tried strawberry pundigli with this recipe.
It also turns out super when you sprinkle powdered sugar on it.
Now we have banana and vanilla ;)
But I highly recommend the strawberry one.

Yes, it seems like a little bit of sugar when it is first taken, but the taste it leaves in your mouth is perfect..

As soon as I saw the Pudding Island Cookies recipe, I applied it and loved it. It was unbelievably delicious, it was a crunchy cookie. Especially thanks to the vanilla we added, a magnificent cocoa and vanilla scent spread throughout the house even while it was cooking. I loved its taste, its sugar was quite sufficient, but the children's comments were not the same.
They said, “Mom, we expected a sweeter cookie from this magnificent chocolate smell that spreads throughout the house”, maybe some sugar can be added, you should try it.
Also, I added that extra half cup of flour you mentioned.
Thanks again for such a nice and easy recipe…
